Course
Protecting concrete structures against reinforcement corrosion: introduction to cathodic protection
This workshop provides a practical introduction to cathodic protection (CP) of reinforced concrete. The workshop starts with the diagnosis of reinforcement corrosion and examines when cathodic protection can offer a suitable solution. It then discusses the necessary preliminary research, the basic principles of design, and the points to consider during implementation and monitoring.

What can you expect from this course?
This workshop aims to help participants:
- provide insight into the operation and advantages of cathodic protection for reinforced concrete,
- learn to diagnose reinforcement corrosion and determine when cathodic protection is a suitable solution,
- gaining insight into KB preliminary research and the most important points to consider when designing a KB system,
- introduce the practical installation and monitoring of KB systems.
Program
- 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: introduction and theory
- 2:00-3:30 p.m.: workshop on diagnostics (reinforcement detection, chloride, carbonation, resistivity, and potential measurement)
- 3:30-4:00 p.m.: coffee and refreshments
- 4:00-5:30 p.m.: KB workshop 'from implementation to start-up'
