Build your own website

You have an idea, a project, an organization or a mini-startup that needs to be visible online, but where do you start? In this three-hour workshop, you'll learn the basics of getting a Web site online. The focus is on practice: registering a domain name, setting up e-mail, exploring different ways to build and host a website, and understanding what fits your situation. There will be plenty of time for questions and for the cases participants bring in themselves, so you'll go home with concrete steps.

To make it tangible, we work with examples. If you want to tutor e.g., a clear homepage with contact form is needed, and a CMS like WordPress or Wix is the fastest and most sustainable solution. A team building a prototype social app sees why a managed backend (like Firebase) can save weeks of work. Those thinking about a long-term software product learn when a proprietary codebase (with Git repository) and cloud platform and/or deployment tools are a better fit. It's not so much about the tools as it is about the logic behind the choices, so you can make that same consideration for your own project.

The workshop follows a clear program:
