SHIFT4Ergonomics - Smart Human-Integrated Feedback Technologies for Ergonomics

SHIFT4Ergonomics is researching how XR technology for workstation design and Vision AI for ergonomic analysis can help companies design more ergonomic workstations.
Musculoskeletal disorders are among the leading causes of long-term absenteeism in Flanders, with a pronounced impact on the logistics and manufacturing industries. Currently, ergonomic risks are often only identified after workstations are operational or complaints manifest, making corrective action complex and costly. Recent advances in computer vision AI, motion capture, 3D posture analysis, and Extended Reality (XR) create new opportunities to virtually design and test workstations, and to automatically and objectively evaluate the ergonomic risks of existing workstations.
SHIFT4Ergonomics supports Flemish organizations in addressing ergonomic risks preventively and objectively, both in the design of new workstations and in the evaluation of existing work situations. The project makes vision AI and XR practically applicable for prevention advisors and design teams through validated workflows, decision frameworks, and participatory methodologies, developed and tested in realistic demonstrators and use cases at Flemish SMEs and government bodies in the logistics and manufacturing industries.
